SHUDDHI receives letters of support from NLR International and NLR India Foundation.

The organizations of NLR(Until No Leprosy Remains) have reviewed the new short documentary, SHUDDHI.

NLR supports the work of the film’s writer/director/producer, James Higginson to utilize the film for the purpose to raise awareness of the emotional and physical nature of Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy), to raise awareness of the Multi Drug Treatment program (MDT) available to those who are diagnosed with Hansen’s Disease, and as a means to begin important discussions in village communities world-wide so to increase testing for Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy). As well, it is important to relate the message that today persons with Leprosy can return to their homes, overcome stigma, enjoy an end to any sense of loneliness or exclusion and can treat Leprosy as a ‘disease of no consequence’.

The film, SHUDDHI, examines the physical and emotional effects of Hansen’s Disease in a factual, poetic manner and does so with exceptionally beautiful, impactful imagery. The film gives voice to a group of patients who can represent the “last generation” to suffer the most severe physical effects of the disease while sensitively relating an individual story of one recently cured patient as he talks with his grandson on the banks of the Ganga.

We are grateful SHUDDHI aligns with the organization’s mission and values.
